Five Areas of Reflection for Educators

Who’s the Blame?

Reflect on the previous statement by Flaxington. In this day and age, educators often feel blamed for too many social ills and things they have no control. Teachers and administrators frequently read or hear stories about failing schools. Educators feel disrespected, unsupported, and underappreciated as professionals. Sometimes, as a defense, they lash out or point fingers to take the heat off of them.

Politicians, district administrators, and all the people who make significant decisions for our schools become the persona non grata. These folks who don’t work in classrooms or schools can’t possibly make sound decisions for the people in the trenches (classrooms and school buildings). Consequently, it all becomes a pointing the finger game instead of how to individually self-reflect to create or make changes in your craft. Own your stuff, too!

Good article. The points made here could be applicable to the leader of any organization. I hope more people read it.
